I once built a house and climbed down the 2 story chimney to hook up the fan ducts. I got stuck between the fireplace insert and chimney brick for about an hour. It was very hot, and a thunderstorm rained down upon me. I was the only one there, and I think I sweated enough to finally get myself free to climb up the chimney to freedom.

It could be that the gossip hurts too much, and they feel they have to keep going to moniter what people are saying about them.
This is so true. Gossip in a KH is a tool used to keep JW's in check, and to establish the pecking order. Untrue gossip was probably THE FACTOR that made me finally make the decision to leave this bat-ship crazy religion, and never ever go back.

i have been dating a man for the last while, and we grew very close, very quickly.. .
suddenly he has pulled away from me, gotten very skittish and says he feels like he is leading a double life, and isn't ready for a relationship.. all the while stating that his impending divorce is the reason for his cold feet, which could be understandable except the marriage was very much "over" long ago.
Good luck no matter what you decide. Some other things to note are, the fact that he is getting a divorce. JW's don't easily divorce, so there is probably more to the story than he has told you, since he never even told you he was a JW to begin with. Another thing is that even though he gets the "legal" divorce......in order to remain a good JW he has to be "free to marry", and then legally married before having ANY sexual activity with a woman. Not only that, but he is expected to only marry a baptized JW woman. From what you describe, although normal relationship activity between consenting adults.....in JW world he would be in big time trouble, even though he is a grown man. Yes......you would be wise to run.
If you are still curious in sticking around here, I'm curious to know what your reaction was in finding out he was not a JW.

LIT.....we are adults here, and everything is completely anonymous. So tell us......did this JW boyfriend and you have anykind of sexual relationship since getting back together? He can be ex-communicated by the JW religion for any sexual relations with you, since the two of you are not married. If you have, he could be feeling extreme guilt, which could explan his acting hot & cold to you. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense for a "mature" man to treat you this way.
P.S. Not prying, but this could answer many things.

LIT......welcome to the JWN board. If you are not in too emotionally deep yet, let this relationship go. This relationship has trouble written all over it, besides the JW crap you would have to contend with if you keep up the reationship. Good luck.
we have a past together (well before he was ever involved with the JW and well before his current marrige). And this convolutes things a little more.
Just seen this on another thread about your past relationship with him, before he was a JW. I guess this makes things different. Maybe you can help get him out of the cult.
